What is the HSVO?

With an increasing number of environments that training is required to be run in, such as rural communities and tertiary care, and the increasing number of software simulation systems available to aiding training, such as simulation bodies HSVO was developed to:

  • Enable sharing of simulation equipment across a high speed network to enable learners to benefit from equipment not at their site
  • To combine simulation equipment together to create advanced learning, such as combining a hypovolymic model with a simulation body to give better simulations
  • To enable training to be given when the trainer is in a different location to the learner, an example being a dissection occuring in McGill University, a trainer in Sudbury and learners logging in a number of other locations all seeing the same or different resources depending on the activity design.

The platform is aimed at

  • Medical institutions to enable them to access simulation software. This would include:
    • Trainers to enable them to access more information and to link to more learners
    • Medical Students and Residents to increase their access to learning resources
  • Edge devices suppliers to enable their systems to be accessed by more learners

The goal of the Health Services Virtual Organization (HSVO) project is to create a sustainable research platform for experimental development of shared ICT-based health services that address these challenges.
